Meet the Author . . . Joanne Banko
Joanne credits her Mother for encouraging her passion for sewing. Her sewing life began in a junior high school Home Economics class. It was truly love at first stitch. At the beginning of the following school year her Mom offered her a choice between ready-made back to school clothes, or a new sewing machine and fabric! Joanne chose the machine and has been sewing ever since!
A graduate of Progressive Fashion School in Cleveland Ohio, Joanne has worked in various aspects of the sewing industry and is now a freelance author, designer, and sewing educator. As an author, she has written articles for a variety of national sewing magazines including Clotilde's Sewing Savvy, Vogue Pattern magazine, DiME, and SQE. She is a frequent contributor to the popular Designs in Machine Embroidery magazine, affectionately known as DiME to machine embroidery enthusiasts. You will find her Bobbin Work Jean Jacket and Satin and Lace Pajamas featured on the cover of past Designs in Machine Embroidery issues.
As a designer and sewing educator, Joanne has produced numerous samples and projects for online instructional materials. You will find her online teaching segments featured on the It’s Sew Easy Public Television show.
A self proclaimed sewing cheerleader, she finds that today’s machines provide endless opportunities for embellishing all manner of garments, quilts, crafts, and home décor. Joanne is especially fond of designing imaginative projects that inspire sewing and machine embroidery enthusiasts to make the most of their machines.
